Tuesday 15 December 2015Drink driving: a festive message
The festive season is a time for parties, overflowing drinks and general indulgence. However, this time of year sees more drivers taking risks on the road, which increases the chance of accidents, and in the worst cases, fatalities, at the hands of drink drivers.
Wiltshire authorities are now pursuing renewed efforts to combat drink-driving over the Christmas period. On 12th December, police were stationed on New Road near the Chiseldon House Hotel, at the time of the morning rush hour. They pulled over every vehicle which was driving over the speed limit and the drivers were breathalysed in accordance with the Force’s Christmas Drink Drive campaign.
The campaign hopes to highlight the dangers of drink driving, particularly on the morning after consuming alcohol, with even a small amount of alcohol impairing the ability to drive safely. With eleven deaths on Britain’s roads each week caused by drink driving, this message is as important as ever.
It is important to remember that if you are injured by a drink driver, then you have the right to claim for compensation for any injuries or loss that you may obtain as a result. It is also worth remembering that if you yourself are over the legal alcohol limit and you have a road traffic accident, then this may count against you in any claims that you may have for compensation.
